10 Pro Tips for Marketing Your Mobile App on Social Media

No matter how great your mobile app looks or how flawlessly it functions, at the end of the day, it all comes down to how much revenue you can generate. The amount of revenue that your app can generate depends on the number of your app users and your app’s visibility.  And the amount of traffic that you generate is the end-results of how you market your mobile app.

There are numerous ways for marketing your mobile app, some of the most common methods are:

  • Using your website
  • Advertising
  • Influencer marketing
  • App store optimization
  • Search Ads
  • Social media

The list can go on and on, so I’ve only mentioned a few of them. One of my personal favorite methods is ‘social media marketing’. I know it may sound cliché, but, if done right, you can generate some favorable results. The primary reason why I would suggest social media is because of its global penetration. Statistic show that there are over 3 billion active social media users.

Now that we understand why social media is an excellent strategy for marketing your mobile apps, let’s see how it’s done.

I have done some research and compiled ten tips for marketing your app on social media. Let’s get started.

Tips for Marketing Your App On Social Media

1.  Understand Advantages of different social media channels

Just like there are numerous ways for marketing your mobile app, there are also numerous social media platforms that you can use. It’s essential that you have your presence on all the social media channels, but, give your complete focus to only one social media channel (especially if you’re just starting off). When it comes to selecting the social media channel to use, you will have to start by doing market research.

Facebook has around 2 billion monthly users, Twitter has around 328 million, and Instagram has around 700 million. These three are favorable for B2C app projects. You will find that the majority of the millennial generation interacts with these platforms. If you have a B2B app project, then you can use LinkedIn which has around 500 million users.  Asides this, make sure that you understand the advantages that different social media channels provide:

Facebook:
This is a good platform for community building.

Twitter:
Excellent for acquiring users and exchanging ideas.

Instagram:
Excellent for well-round pictorial and aesthetic content.

(Note that I have only provided information for 3 social media channels. If I thoroughly explain all the social media channels this article will exceed its limits).

2. Engaging Content

SEO and Content Marketing

The primary reason why people use social media is for entertainment, socializing, and of course ‘learning new stuff’. Evidently, you will have to create engaging content that not only educates your audience but also keeps them entertained. You will have to develop content that builds trust and encourages users to interact with your mobile app.

For example, if you have an app that teaches how to cook. You can make tasty food using your mobile app and upload a video or a tutorial to entice your users. You can even post high-quality vibrant photographs that will appeal to your followers.

Here are some steps that you can take to create engaging social media content for promoting your mobile app:

  • Provide original and unique content:
Analyze your competitors, but, don’t do what they are doing. Come up with something unique and exclusive for your mobile app.
  • Real-time content is fabulous:
Understand the interest of your audience and create relevant content. For example, Christmas, Halloween, summer vacations, etc. This type of real-time contextual content can attract your reader’s attention.
  • Don’t forget to use infographics:
Infographics are a great way to highlight what your app does and what its amazing features are. Visual infographics are constantly shared on the majority of the social media platforms.
  • Post personal Content:
Share behind-the-scene pictures of your brand, or maybe a video that shows your app’s designing procedure.
  • Use popular hashtags:

Use hashtags like #mondaymotivation, #blackfriday, and #throwbackthursday to boost your business.

  • Humor is good for your health and your app:
You don’t have to be serious about your app business all the time. Relax and create some humorous content to keep your audience engaged. Making your customers laugh will help you create a closer bond with them. If you share really funny content, your users might even share it on their profiles.
  • Create Viral Videos:
You can use websites such as Dailymotion, YouTube, and Google Video to find and share buzzworthy videos. These can help you generate more user interactions.

3. Dab into Social Media Influencers

Celebrities and social media influencers have a significant influence on social media users. If you’re not able to persuade your target audience, then a tech or fashion icon can get the job done for you. For mobile apps, you can hire software gurus to help promote your app.

If a person that has a strong influence in the mobile app world was to recommend your mobile app, many of the consumers will value what they say and try out your app. This is a short, but very productive tip.

Influencer-Marketing

Let’s have a look at how influencer marketing can help boost your mobile app downloads:

  • Help increase your brand awareness
Influencer marketing is a great way to reach a greater audience and to increase the awareness of your brand as well as your individual products (including mobile apps).
  • Help you reach your target audience more effectively
If you’re unable to reach out or attract your desired niche audience. Then niche related influencers that have a specific category of followers can help place your app in front of social media users.
  • Build credibility and trust
Influencers have already done the hard work of building relationships with their followers, credibility, and well as user trust. So when you start working with these influencers, their followers will value what they say and consumers will be more willing to try out your products.

4.  Don’t Forget Community Forums

When you want to socialize and share your ideas with people, what could be a better platform then community platforms? One of my favorite community forums is Quora. Why? Because I can share my ideas, my thoughts, my unpopular opinions, and even promote products.

People on community forums tend to follow users that can provide valuable information to them (whether it’s tech-related or otherwise). The more followers you gain the more people will trust you. And once you have people on your side, you can start recommending your mobile apps to users.

5.  Promote User-Generated Content

I’ve mentioned above that you can hire social media influencers to help promote your content. One other creative way to build trust is by utilizing ‘user-generated content’. This is done by turning your customers into potential advocates. Your previous and current customers are the best demonstrations for showcasing the value of your mobile app.

This is also referred to as ‘social proof’. You can do this by encouraging your customers to post content (it can be a picture, a video, or just a shout-out). You can share these posts on your social media channels, this simple step will raise awareness of your app and boost your conversion rate.

In case you feel that your customers will be unwilling to generate promotional content, you provide incentives to motivate them.

6. Run Contests

If you’re a lady, I’m sure that you have come across makeup related pages that create giveaways. These giveaways are created for the purpose of gaining more followers, getting likes, and creating awareness for your brand.

For example, if you’re promoting a makeup app, your post will go something like this:

“We’re giving away kylie matte lip kit. In order to participate:

  • Follow our page on Instagram
  • Like 3 of our posts
  • Invite 3 friends to like our page
  • Download our app and register yourself

A lucky draw will be held”

7. Utilize Demo Videos

Statistics reveal that users tend to interact with videos as opposed to other forms of content. When I’m scrolling Facebook, I’m more attracted to funny videos as opposed to long wordy posts. You can use this strategy to promote your app as well.

How to do It?
-Create tutorials that showcase your app’s amazing interface
-Create demo videos of your app
-Create a video that shows your app in action (especially useful if you have a gaming mobile app).

8.  Run Social Media Ads

If you’re unable to generate followers using any of the methods that I’ve mentioned above, ‘Social media advertising’ is your next stop. (In fact, you don’t necessarily have to use it only when other strategies fail, if you have the money, you can start running ads in the early stages to expand your outreach).

Social media ads are an effective way to reach your desired audience. Because of the steady decline in organic reach across social media channels, increasing your visibility using paid advertisements is becoming essential to drive more users.

Social media advertisements are responsible for generating 49% of mobile app downloads.

Here are some tips for running social media ads to promote your mobile apps:

  • Carefully select the social media platform that you will use to market your mobile app.
  • Instead of a short-term marketing strategy, build a long-term social media marketing strategy.
  • Clearly understand the audience that you want to reach (interests, location, age, etc.).
  • In case you have a paid app, don’t forget to market your mobile app to generation Z (they have more buying power).
  • Center your social media ads around your consumer’s requirements and desires.
  • Design your ads by keeping mobile in mind.
  • Have consistency in your ad posting.

9.  Interact with Your Followers

Don’t only use social media to generate followers, make sure that you interact with them as well. Respond to your customer’s feedback and comments. This will make them feel that you value them and it will also create a sense of satisfaction (if I were to comment on Nike’s official page and Nike took the time to respond to my comment, no doubt that I’d feel great). This way, your followers will become your dedicated customers and will get free promotion.

10. Create Pre-Launch Buzz

Creating ‘Pre-Launch Buzz’, Apple’s famous marketing strategy. Before you launch your product, the pre-launch buzz will help you get the word out so that more people know about it.  Here are some essential steps that you should take to generate pre-launch buzz using social media:

  • Clearly demonstrate the issues that your app will solve
  • Gent social media influencers on board
  • Create an event surrounding your app’s launch
  • Entice your users by sending out engaging content
  • Ask your users to share your page
